New, unread. 194 pages plus 16 pages of b&w photographs. Appendices. Index Tempest Pilot is a frank and honest, amusing, sometimes stark and bleak account of the author's flying experiences in Britain throughout WWII. Jimmy Sheddan was one of many New Zealanders who joined the RNZAF and then left to come to England during WWII to serve in the RAF. Initially viewed by superiors as something of a 'prickly pear', he got results and ended the war as a squadron commander in Denmark with decorations to his name. His account sheds fascinating light on the antics and courage of New Zealand airmen flying Typhoons and Tempests with 485 and 486 Squadrons.
