Unread, unmarked. Pictorial cover. Attention all Beetle enthusiasts! Here is the very first technical design report on the most popular car in the world: the VW Beetle. Originally designed by Porsche as "a car for the people", the car was to go into production in 1939. But as a wartime measure a modified vehicle was commissioned for the German army and the Beetle saw action in WWII from the Eastern Front to the Western Desert of Africa.People's Car is a facsimile of the original technical report commissioned by the British Intelligence Sub-Committee after the war in 1947 and published by HMSO. Besides being a technical design report, the book helps to place the Beetle in its historical context. The appendix includes a translation of how to purchase the car using saving stamps. The facsimile was published in England in 1996 and it is OOP (out-of-print).
