While the book is new and unread, the jacket is in poor condition. The jacket was never laminated and, as copies rubbed against one another, the ink rubbed off. In addition, as the jacket was printed on thin, poor quality paper, it chipped easily around the edges and at spine extremities. Some of the chips turned into a longish tear.About the Border Terrier is a guide to the breed for pet owners as well as seasoned kennel breeders. The well written text covers the history of the breed and the breed club, the conformation standards and characteristics, genetics, and the importance of proper nutrition. Beside the origins of the breed, the author also discusses the original goals and purposes for breeding the Border Terrier. It must be stressed that the discussion is about the Border Terrier which originated in the Border Country, and not the Australian Border Terrier, or the Swedish Border Terrier, or the American Border Terrier. About the Border Terrier was originally published in the US in 1985 by Bradford Press. The book offered here is the 2nd Revised Edition published in Scotland in 1991 by TC Farries. This 2nd edition has much expanded Appendixes. It reprints two early and rare publications, Montague Horn's much prized monograph The Border Terrier (1943) and Border Lines , a collection of articles by early Border Terrier breeders (1948.) Author Walter J.F. Gardner was uniquely qualified to write about the Border Terriers having bred them for over 40 years. He has judged most of the championship shows including Crufts.
