The Bedfordshire Family of Laces, Fisher, Jennifer
1 Fisher, Jennifer The Bedfordshire Family of Laces
Kenthurst, Australia Kangaroo Press 1991 0864173288 / 9780864173287 First Edition Hardcover New with No dust jacket as issued 7 1/4" x 9 3/4"
Unread, unmarked. Pictorial cover. 8 color and 35 b/w photos, numerous line drawings. 36 designs. Index. Maltese, Cluny, Bedfordshire-Maltese are the three members of the Bedfordshire family of laces, and are all very similar, both in the way they are worked and in their appearance, but each has its own personality and idiosyncrasies. Jennifer Fisher traces the development of these three bobbin laces from their common ancestor, Genoese lace, and provides 36 designs to work. The majority of these are her own designs, and show a contemporary approach to the three traditional laces; the remaining six patterns are based on historic designs. This is a book for lace makers who already have a good working knowledge of the techniques of bobbin lace, not a book for beginners. Each chapter contains two or three patterns which increase in complexity. Instructions for early patterns are reasonably full, gradually becoming less detailed as the book progresses and the lace maker's confidence increases. Jennifer Fisher is an Australian lace maker with several books on lace to her credit. ; 144 pages
