Mcindoes Army: The Story of the Guinea Pig Club and Its Indomitable Members, Bishop, Edward
6 Bishop, Edward Mcindoes Army: The Story of the Guinea Pig Club and Its Indomitable Members
London Grub Street 2001 1902304934 / 9781902304939 Hardcover New in New dust jacket 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
Unread with minimal shelfwear. 16 pages of b&w photographs. Appendices. Index. The Guinea Pig Club is a unique body of grievously burned, often seriously disfigured and handicapped WWII Allied airmen who were under the care of acclaimed plastic surgeon, Sir Archibald McIndoe. at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, England. In 2001, the Guinea Pig's Club's 60th Anniversary year, Edward Bishop revises and expands his perceptive account of these unique aviation heroes who had escaped from blazing, exploding and crippled bombers and fighter planes. Author Bishop tells the stories of these fighting men, from McIndoe's earliest war-time patients, and marvels at the way their courage and heroism gave them the hope to carry on with their lives, while displaying a delicate balance between candor, sympathy, horror and humor. And he lets many of the members tell their own stories in their own way and with previously unpublished photographs. McIndoe's Army is a totally rewritten version of The Guinea Pig Club, published by Macmillan in 1963!; 160 pages

London Grub Street 1997 1898697493 / 9781898697497 First Edition Hardcover New in New dust jacket 7" x 10"
New, unread, unmarked, unclipped dj. Pristine. 292 pages plus 32 pages of b&w photos. The 249 Squadron was the RAF's foremost squadron. With many illustrious names on its honor list, the 249 was also the highest-scoring fighting squadron. Formed in May, 1940, the 249 Squadron saw action in the Battle of Britain, then Malta, then Italy and the Balkans until the end of the war. Among its distinguished pilots were Ginger Neil, J B Nicolson, Buzz Buerling, Buck McNair, Laddie Lucas, and many other fighter pilots. After the war, the Squadron was based in the Middle East and flew with distinction in the Suez conflict in 1956. Disbanded in 1969, its memory lives on brightly in the annals of the Royal Air Force. The book is illustrated with over 150 black & white photographs, many published here for the first time. The book is unread, and both book and dust jacket are in Fine condition. I believe the book is OOP (out of print). ; 292 pages

Not for Queen and Country: A No-Holds Barred Account of Life as a British Soldier, Denmark, Edwards
16 Denmark, Edwards Not for Queen and Country: A No-Holds Barred Account of Life as a British Soldier
United Kingdom Pharaoh Press 1998 190144208X / 9781901442083 Paperback New 6" x 9"
Unread, unmarked. Firsthand stories of the author's life as a British soldier - from Army cadets on Merseyside to action in the Falklands and Northern Ireland. The shocking, disturbing reality is that against the enemy you fight not for Queen and Country, but for life and survival, the chance to see tomorrow. Indeed, this is a different type of military memoir. Written without the normal gung-ho approach to soldiering, Not for Queen and Country is about the real feelings of a soldier -- the man beneath the uniform -- and his character. Edward Denmark gives a very candid insight into the basic training and the harsh regime that young men endure during the transition from civilian to soldier. He describes the horrors of war during the Falklands and what the soldiers face on the bloody and brutal streets of Northern Ireland.; 222 pages
