It was actually a pretty good movie, go rent it, and then come back and get this cool book on the last great story of the Krays, told by the one man who knows all the poop, older brother Charlie. For years, Britain and the world have had a fascination with the Kray gang. Their power during the 60's and beyond was legendary. This story tells about their alliance with the American Mafia and brings us up-to-date on their current whereabouts. For fans of criminals and their activities, this is a great read. Roll the Dice : A True Saga of Love, Money and Betrayal, Guppy, Darius
5 Guppy, Darius Roll the Dice : A True Saga of Love, Money and Betrayal
London, United Kingdom Blake Publishing 1996 1857821599 / 9781857821598 Hardcover New in New dust jacket 6" x 9 1/2"
Unread, unblemished. A fascinating look at the inside of Britain's upper-class, smuggling and the world of high finance. Photos of Princess Diana not seen elsewhere. 310 pages plus 16 pages of mostly color photographs. Darius Guppy is a former playboy who hatched an outlandish scheme to defraud the famous Lloyd's of London for three million dollars, nearly got away with it, but got caught and served time in prison. His account of the plot and its aftermath results in a very entertaining book. Darius Guppy was highly intelligent and his best friend was the brother of Princess Diana. Feeling that Lloyd's of London was responsible for his family's misfortune, Guppy concocted an elaborate plan that fooled not only the New York Police Department, but British detectives, as well. It was only after an accomplice betrayed him, three years later, that Guppy was arrested and sent to prison. Roll the Dice, in a plot right out of a detective novel, is a fascinating look at the inside of Britain's upper-class, smuggling and the world of high finance. Darius Guppy is a terrific story-teller, who makes no apologies for his crime. His story was plastered all over the London tabloids as the smart aleck, rich kid who got exactly what he deserved. For the Princess Diana completists, while this book is not about the Princess, it does contain a couple of photographs of the Princess, not available anywhere else.

Voices from an Evil God: The True Story of the Yorkshire Ripper and the Woman Who Loved Him, Jones, Barbara
6 Jones, Barbara Voices from an Evil God: The True Story of the Yorkshire Ripper and the Woman Who Loved Him
London, United Kingdom Blake Publishing, Limited 1996 1857820657 / 9781857820652 Mass Market Paperback New 4 3/8" x 7"
New, never read, no shelf wear. Slightly tanning text. 390 pages plus 16 pages of b&w photographs. The story of Britain's most notorious mass-murderer of the century related by the Yorkshire Ripper himself and his devoted wife. We've all heard the voices in our heads screaming at us to do some horrible thing. For most, these voices are contained and suppressed, but, for some, the voices get louder and more dominant. Peter Sutcliffe was a mechanic in Britain who heard the voices. He was to become the Yorkshire Ripper, the most feared mass murderer in British criminal history. He was married to a woman who loved him dearly, and had no clue about his actions. Sutcliffe murdered 20 women over a period of time and once he went to trial, he was sentenced to 20 separate life sentences. Even after the trial his wife Sonia simply said she loved him and loathed both his victims and their families. Only one outsider knows the real truth about this extraordinary marriage. Author Barbara Jones spent six years talking with Sutcliffe and his wife (and there're some lovely travel photos in the book with the two women on holiday). Sutcliffe takes the author through each murder, one more chilling than the next, to create a disturbing, yet fascinating portrait of the psyche of a terrifying serial killer. But wait, there's more. As Peter Sutcliffe lives out his life in prison, he is bombarded with letters and marriage proposals from women all over the world. Some even visit him in prison. Go figure!

Pretty Boy, Roy Shaw with Kate Kray
10 Roy Shaw with Kate Kray Pretty Boy
London, UK Blake Publishing 1999 1857823613 / 9781857823615 First Edition; Fourth Printing Hardcover New in New dust jacket 6" x 9 1/2"
Unread, unmarked. 16 pages of b&w photographs from Shaw's own collection. The true story of the meanest man in England. This book was # 1 for three weeks on the Sunday London Times' Best-Selling List and Top Ten for three months. An incredible "rags to riches" story of one of England's most hardened criminals who became a success using his fists and his internal rage. For anyone who admires tough guys or macho men with swagger, Pretty Boy fulfils that need quite nicely. Roy Shaw was born in 1936 and, as a youth, began using his fists to intimidate people and get what he wanted. He was in and out of prisons all of his adult life, until finally, in1963, he received an 18-year sentence for armed robbery. But, Shaw was respected for his fighting skills and upon his release from prison, he was asked to "monitor" certain situations at nightclubs, which paid him very well. He also began participating in the sport of bare-knuckles fighting. This was an unlicensed sport, with big money betting on the outcome. Shaw quickly became the most infamous of these fighters, battling until only one man was standing, usually Shaw. His fights with fellow tough-guy, Lenny McLean, became legend in the UK. Through shrewd investments, Shaw has become a millionaire, finally content with his life. Pretty Boy is an unglorified look into the world of thugs, criminals and the seamier side of the system. It shows how one man, whose life became a series of crimes and brutality, came to find the inner peace within himself to become a sort-of folk hero in Britain. Shaw is unapologetic for his actions -- he accepts full responsibility for his life. Pretty Boy is a fascinating book of crime, retribution and, ultimately, redemption. ; 218 pages
